How to Play
A nonogram (also called Japanese crossword or picross) is a logic puzzle. Use number clues on each row and column to decide which cells should be filled.
Core Rules
- Each number tells you the length of one continuous filled block in that row or column.
- When you see multiple numbers, each block appears in order from left-to-right (or top-to-bottom).
- Separate neighboring blocks by at least one empty cell.
- The puzzle is solved when every row and column exactly matches its clues.
Controls
- Fill mode: click or tap a cell to paint it as part of the picture.
- X mode: mark cells that you are sure must stay empty.
- Drag: click-and-drag to apply your current mode across multiple cells quickly.
- Undo / Redo: step backward or forward through your moves.
- Reset: clear the board and restart the current puzzle.
- New Puzzle: generate a fresh puzzle for the selected size.
Quick Strategy Tips
- Start with rows or columns where clues nearly fill the whole line (for example
9in a 10-cell row). - Use overlap logic: if a clue can only fit in a narrow range, some cells are guaranteed to be filled.
- After placing filled cells, immediately mark impossible spaces with X to avoid mistakes.
- Switch between rows and columns often to cross-check your progress.
Tip: If you get stuck, solve the most constrained line first—the one with the fewest possible arrangements.
